The Monte Stevens Special Edition Custom Guitar Body:

This lovely custom guitar body was made for Monte Stevens. Monte saw the Wes Watson custom bass body and fell in ove with the wood combination and soon after contacted me to ask about doing a special guitar body. Like Wes, Monte loved his Steinberger graphite neck and bridge, but was looling for something more. Monte sent me a number of photos of the body styles that appealed to him, and the next morning I had drafted up a new design based on what he liked, and the MS Special was born!
    Monte put a new twist on things when he asked to use his GS neck with gearless tuners and a Steinberger R-Trem bridge. I was puzzled, but the fact is it turned out great, and it's really cool to be able to tune the guitar from either end!  Monte chose Dimarzzio pickups and the 3 way switch in standard configuration. The best way I could describe the end result was to ask: "What growls like a grizzley and sings like an angel?".

Monte Stevens Custom Guitar - The love of Wood:
The woods used to create this beauty, are: Zebra wood (for the top), maple and wenge (for the center), walnut, (veneer, sandwiched between the top and bottom)  and butternut (for the back). The Danish oiled finish provides a satiny smooth soft luster that brings out the beauty of the wood grain, and provides protection and appealing good looks. High gloss finishes are nice, but nothing compliments fine wood as well as an oiled finish! The back also features a cavity control cover made from butternut, proving much nicer than a plastic cover!

Monte also liked the idea of a back scallop cut out, so I came up with a new one to suit his unique guitar. Without Monte's imput, this design would never have been developed, and I'm still elated that he came to me with his request.

The weight of this instrument is light and well balanced by the combination of the woods selected, and results in an extremely comfortable guitar. The sustain on this axe is amazing (see Monte's review below), and the Steinberger R-Trem works like a dream (Thanks Ned!).
